Tottenham target Mateo Kovacic’s agent has come out and has spoken about the player’s future with Real Madrid and their summer plans. The Madrid midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham amidst speculation surrounding his future. With uncertainty around the player’s position, his agent, Nikky Vulsan has revealed details about the star’s plans for the summer.
Kovacic joined Real Madrid from Inter in a £25million deal back in August 2015. Since then, he hasn’t really nailed down his spot in the Real Madrid set-up. He has made a total of 70 appearances for the Los Blancos, with 36 of them coming this season. He has scored 2 goals and 3 assists so far and has usually been deployed in a deeper role.
Vulsan speaking to Tutto Mercato said;
“There is not any news. Or rather, there are no chances that this will be possible. Mateo has a very long contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2021. So I do not understand all these rumours, all this speculation about his future.”
This should come as a massive blow for Tottenham as the club definitely needs strengthening for next season. There has been an apparent lack of quality in the depth that is available and the central midfield region is light on numbers. Hence, it is not surprising to see Tottenham get linked with a move for Mateo Kovacic.
Kovacic would have been a really good signing for Tottenham as he isn’t too expensive. He was signed for £25million and hasn’t really grown in stature at Madrid. So his value should be somewhere around the same number. It would have been a coup had Tottenham signed him, but unfortunately, things don’t seem to be going in Spurs’ way.
Now that the player’s agent has dismissed the rumours, Tottenham would surely be looking at other potential targets instead of forcing a move for the Croatian. There are a lot of quality midfielders available in the market, and the fans need not rue the missed opportunity. Nevertheless, things can change over the course of the summer and who knows; the deal could be revived again.
