Tottenham Hotspur have revealed a new set of images of the under-construction stadium ahead of the final game that is set to take place at White Hart Lane this weekend. Manchester United travel to North London to play, what would be the final football match to happen at the Lane. Surprisingly, Manchester United were the last team to play at West Ham United’s Upton Park as well.
Spurs suffered a shock defeat to West Ham last weekend, that potentially put an end to what was a hopeful title race until the game. The gap was at 4 points and the chance was there to put further pressure on Chelsea but Tottenham lost. It was an opportunity to win the title for one last time during the time at White Hart Lane. But it hasn’t happened.
The game this weekend is surely an emotional one considering the history involved. Spurs have been in the stadium since 1899 and the club’s supporters and players alike are bound to feel emotional as they bid farewell to the old stadium.
However, the club has released the latest pictures of the Northumberland Development Project. The pictures were in such a way that they depicted the height and size of the new stadium. It was a remarkable view and one can only imagine what it would be like once the construction is complete.
The grand new stadium is set to be open for the 2018/19 season, meanwhile, Tottenham are all set to play their home games next season at the Wembley.
Speaking in April when the temporary switch to Wembley was confirmed, chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement:
“This marks a momentous day in our club’s history as it is the day we formally agreed the demolition of our beloved White Hart Lane. The Lane means a huge amount to… us and we needed to gain greater certainty on the delivery of the new stadium before we made the final decision to commence with the decommissioning of our iconic, historic home for some 118 years. We shall ensure that we give the Lane a fitting farewell when we play our last match here on May 14.”
A huge amount of effort has been put in to change things at Tottenham and elevate the club to the next level. If everything goes well, Spurs should see out a win against Manchester United and keep their mathematical chances of winning the title alive as Chelsea need only one more win to seal the title. Win or lose, the game is going to be a historic one and hopefully, the future holds bright for Spurs after the White Hart Lane episode.
