Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich could be the latest signing to join Premier League side Tottenham according to reports from TransferMarketWeb.com.
The 28-year-old central defender is a target for many clubs in the summer window and the Lilywhites are plotting a bid to bring him over to London.
Boateng isn’t pleased with the lack of playing time at the German champions and has reportedly called for a meeting with the Bayern board regarding his future at the club. This situation between the German and Bundesliga powerhouse is being tracked by Arsenal and Tottenham.
The German would be a great signing for the summer if he does move to Tottenham and being only 28 years of age, he still has his best years ahead of him. Boateng has been one of the more consistent performers for the Bavarian side in recent years and has won five Bundesliga titles and a Champions League crown as well during his time in Germany.
Many would remember Boateng as the pricy defender who moved to Manchester City and struggled to adjust to the rigours of the Premier League. The German was quickly sold but after spending time playing under Jupp Heyneckes, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, he could be primed for a return to the Premier League.
Spurs have had their own issues with centre-backs as the future of Toby Alderweireld is still up in the air. The Belgian defender hasn’t signed a new contract at the club and he could end up leaving the club for a better pay package.
Tottenham would find it hard to replace Alderweireld in the summer and the Belgian has formed a great partnership alongside Jan Vertonghen. However, if Mauricio Pochettino does lose out on one of his best players, Boateng wouldn’t be the worst replacement in the world.
Pochettino could turn Boateng into a world beater and signing the multiple Bundesliga winner could turn out great for the Lilywhites next season.
