Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly wanted by Inter Milan as their next manager. Please do not panic. We don’t see it happening and hopefully, we’re right. According to Sky Italy, the Nerazzurri want Pochettino as their manager and Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio is flying to London this week to hold talks over a proposed move to lure the Tottenham boss to San Siro.
The report says that the Serie A club can buy Pochettino out of his current contract by paying Tottenham £4.2m and are willing to offer him a deal worth £8.5m-a-year. Inter sacked coach Stefano Pioli last week following 5 defeats in 6 games and have approached the representatives of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as well.
Mauricio Pochettino is currently contracted to Tottenham until the summer of 2021 having signed fresh terms last May. He seems quite focused on his job with us and isn’t looking like getting distracted by interests from elsewhere.
Pochettino has turned us into genuine title contenders and it isn’t surprising to see the magical Argentine linked with other clubs. It is quite obvious that clubs would be willing to take him as their manager given his performance.
However, club chairman Daniel Levy and Pochettino share a good bond and it is hard to see them drop their plans mid-way and part ways. The new stadium is being constructed and almost all the first-team players have signed a long-term contract with the club. So it is almost derivable that Pochettino is here for the long run.
Levy would not want to let go of Pochettino, who is the club’s best manager in recent years. The club has seen a phenomenal rise since the appointment of the Argentine and surely, the board wouldn’t want to break the development. It’d be disastrous if he chose to leave Spurs and join Inter!
Our Verdict
With all due respect, Inter are a great club and they have their own rich history. But this is Tottenham and we are now one of the best clubs in England. There’s a great project in place and Pochettino is the heart of it. So it would be a huge surprise if Pochettino decided to accept Inter’s offer.
Do you think Pochettino would quit Tottenham and join Inter?
