Ryan Sessegnon has been linked with a number of top clubs in the last few months. Rated as one of the finest young left backs around, clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham are interested in making a move for the player, who is almost certain to leave Fulham in the summer. Despite being just 17 years of age, Sessegnon is expected to cost in excess of £10 million. The club’s need to find a top class left back in order to relieve midfielder James Milner from this position has led to Sessegnon being widely linked (Independent) with a move to Anfield.
A few weeks ago, Liverpool looked like being on the verge of signing the player (Football.London). Now, the onus is upon Tottenham, who are set to make a £12 million offer for the 17-year-old, according to the Sun. Liverpool might be ready to provide the player with a regular first-team spot, but he is still extremely young by the Premier League standards. It may be a couple of years before Sessegnon starts to play regularly in the top division, as it is a major step up from the Championship. Spurs will offer him the best possible way to get introduced into the top division, as the club are likely to drop Danny Rose any time soon.
Danny Rose, however, has been surprisingly linked with an exit in the last few weeks (According to a bizarre report in The Sun). Apart from Rose, Spurs could also lose Kyle Walker in the summer. Rose is being linked with a move to Manchester City, while Kyle Walker is the target of Chelsea.
Ryan Sessegnon has been a wonder story in the Championship this season. After only making his debut for the Londoners in the summer, he has gone on to make 23 appearances in the league and has scored five goals. His attacking instincts have not gone unnoticed, as he was even included in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for the 2016-17 season. Besides from his appearances in the league, he has also scored two goals in just three appearances in the FA Cup.
Tottenham have a history of taking on young players from the Championship or lower and turning them into global superstars. The likes of Gareth Bale, Dele Alli, and Walker are fine examples of the same. Ryan Sessegnon will certainly look at this aspect and be tempted by a move to Tottenham rather than to Liverpool or City.
