Tottenham may be extremely satisfied with a 2nd-place finish in the Premier League. But not everything has been positive for some of the players in the squad. This is especially true for midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who has gone through a difficult campaign in North London. Latest reports from French publication lejdd.fr, hints that the midfielder may depart Tottenham in the summer, with French outfit Marseille holding plenty of talks with the player over the last few weeks.
Since February, Sissoko has played the full 90 minutes of a game only once and it was in the 6-1 win over Leicester City. It is clear that manager Mauricio Pochettino does not prefer playing him. Rather than keep him in the squad and have an unhappy player, Spurs may be ready to sell the Frenchman in the summer. However, Sissoko is aware that the club have once again qualified for the Champions League and will be able to offer much better chances of winning a trophy next season.
Marseille, meanwhile, only finished 5th behind Olympique Lyon. As a result, the club have only managed to qualify for the Europa League next season. It is understood that Sissoko has been holding talks with Marseille in order to know more about the club’s ambition. He is ready to forgo a season in the Champions League if it means that Marseille are prepared to spend big in the summer transfer window. The French outfit clearly have the funds to sign Sissoko, who is expected to cost around £25million.
Sissoko is thought to have reservations about his move to France where there is a big competition for the Champions League places, just like in England. However, Marseille’s inability to spend at the same level as Paris Saint-Germain or Monaco will leave them at a serious disadvantage when it comes to regularly qualifying for Europe. Hence, the former Newcastle United midfielder is seeking reassurances from Marseille before committing to a move back to France.
Since arriving from Newcastle in the summer, Sissoko has started only a handful of Premier league games. He has not scored for the club in 34 games across all competitions.
Do you think we should sell him when the chance arises?
