Tottenham have been installed as favourites to sign Bournemouth’s Joshua King along with Everton, with the race to sign the highly-rated striker expected to go down to the wire. Bournemouth have sealed a deal for Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, who, despite his heroic efforts, saw his team get relegated. So it looks like the Cherries are prepared for the departure of Joshua King, who has been on fire since the turn of the year.
Joshua King scored 16 goals from 36 games in the recently concluded Premier League campaign and also has 2 assists to his name. He saw an overturn in form since the start of 2017 and went on a goal scoring spree.
Now, Sky Bet are offering odds of 5/1 for King to make the move to Tottenham, the same odds for an Everton switch. The fact that Bournemouth signed Joshua King on a free transfer would see them reap some nice profit on the young striker.
King is only 25-years old and has a lot of potential. However, it would be safe to say that signing King wouldn’t be a wise move by Tottenham as the squad at Pochettino’s disposal is already too strong. Any potential arrival must be of good quality and should be able to fight for a first-team place with Harry Kane. King though would find it difficult to grab Kane’s place.
Our Verdict
There is also a certain Vincent Janssen in the squad, who has played only one season for Spurs. Though he had a disappointing campaign, he is a quality player and we expect him to come good next term.
Everton, on the other hand, are primed to lose Romelu Lukaku, who hasn’t signed a contract extension with the club. It is clear that he wants Champions League football and Everton being a notch below that, cannot offer Europe’s elite tournament.
Joshua King would be perfect for a team like Everton, who at best would be able to finish at Europa League places and not more than that.
We’d rather benefit by signing better players than Joshua King and it’d be safe to let Everton take the 25-year old Norwegian.
