While it has been widely reported that Youri Tielemans isn’t coming to the Premier League and Tottenham would not be signing him anytime soon, it looks like the club did try their level best in bringing the talented Belgian over to London.
Noted journalist Kristof Terreur tweeted recently that the agent of the Anderlecht midfielder met Spurs and a number of other clubs as viable options as he looked to continue his development.
His agent saw Dortmund, Atlético, Spurs al Monaco as realistic targets: able to pay £20m + ideal circumstances & playing concept to develop.

It isn’t a surprise really, seeing clubs such as Dortmund, Atletico, and Monaco all fighting it out for the signature of the 20-year-old midfielder as they are big names.
Tielemans would have been a great signing for at least three of those clubs as they are pushing youth football to an extent. Either way, it is our loss as Tielemans has joined the Ligue1 champions Monaco for £21.6m, who have been a breath of fresh air as they won the title ahead of big money spending PSG.
However, Terreur added that the Premier League was never a realistic option for Tielemans; at least his agent believed Tottenham would have been a decent target.
“The Premier League was never a real option for Youri Tielemans. Anderlecht rejected an offer from an English mid-table club,” the reliable journalist said on Wednesday as reported by This Is Futbol.
“His agent saw Dortmund, Atletico, Spurs, and Monaco as realistic targets: able to pay £20million and ideal circumstances and playing concept to develop.”
Tielemans’ performance for Anderlecht certainly caught the attention of many as he took his side to the Belgian league title. Our loss is Monaco’s gain but at least he will play football for one of the best attacking sides in Europe next season.
We Tottenham fans would have loved to have at our club Youri! Anyway, good luck with your future.
