Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has surprisingly called for his club to spend in a sensible manner in the upcoming summer transfer window. Spurs secured a second consecutive top four finish, and they have also reached the Champions League group stages for the second consecutive season without any qualifiers. Fans have been calling for manager Mauricio Pochettino to spend a huge sum of money in order to take the club to the next level and start winning major honours. Yet, Alli has surprisingly urged calm and collected moves from the club in the summer transfer window.

Almost every club that finished in the top six places are set to undergo a major spending spree. Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £250 million war chest while the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City are not far behind. Hence, Spurs face the risk of being left out of the race next season. It became extremely clear over the course of the 2016-17 season that the club may not be on the same level of strength when it comes to squad players. Our first team, though, remains impressive with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane more than just making up the numbers.

Alli says that it is imperative for the club to keep confidence in the players at the club. He was quoted by Sky Sports as saying;

“With the players we’ve got here, we don’t need to go out and spend loads of money. There is a good bunch of players here. Everyone is determined, everyone works hard and there is a lot of quality in the team.

“It is important we stick together, keep working hard and keep improving. We have to take our form from the end of this season into next season, and start even stronger.”

However, Pochettino is unlikely to heed to these words, as he knows that the club needs substantial strengthening primarily in terms of enhancing the bench. The first team could be left as it is, especially considering that the team finished only a few points behind Chelsea, who set the record for the most number of wins in the league.

One of the major differences compared to the 2015-16 season is that Spurs managed a strong end to the season. After having suffered a poor end to the campaign in the 2015-16 season, Tottenham were not really out of the blocks in a fast manner last season. Ultimately, this can be the difference between winning and losing the title. Now, Spurs are hoping to make a strong start to the season.

Alli enjoyed a very positive campaign after managing to finish the season with a whopping 22 goals. He is fast turning out into one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League. The midfielder says that one of the major improvements to his game is the ability to time his runs into the box. His physical presence has allowed him to score a lot of headed goals this season.
