Tottenham have taken a march on Manchester United to sign highly rated 19-year old wonder kid Cengiz Under, who has been nicknamed as the ‘Turkish Dybala’, from Istanbul Basaksehir. It seems like Tottenham’s hunt for young stars continues as reports have emerged stating that Tottenham have completed the signing of Cenzig by beating Manchester United to his signature.
Turkish sports radio station Radyospor claim that Spurs have struck a £8 million deal with the Istanbul-based outfit. The report also states that the negotiation between Tottenham and Basaksehir officials was a lengthy one and it reached a successful conclusion.
Despite the radio station claiming that the deal is done, there is no official confirmation yet from Turkish football sources. The club have not made an official statement either. It has been revealed by turkish-football.com that Cengiz Under was scouted by Premier League clubs.
Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag confirmed that the talented young lad has attracted interest from England. He was quoted by turkish-football.com as saying,
“There were scouts from Premier League scouts and La Liga teams at the Besiktas derby.
I will reveal the details at the end of the season as I do not want to distract the team. We do not want to sell Under but will discuss this once the season is over.”
It is believed that Manchester United were among the clubs monitoring Cengiz Under. Tottenham’s Eastern European chief scout was also spotted at a Basaksehir game two weeks ago, keeping tabs on the young winger.
Under has been nicknamed the ‘Turkish Dybala’ in Turkey due to similarities in playing style to the Juventus star. The Turkish international starlet was recently praised on the official UEFA website after a brilliant breakthrough season. The former Altinordu youth product has been directly involved in 16 goals this season, scoring 9 times and providing 7 assists.
Under joined Basaksehir for just £600,000 from Altinordu last summer, making a seamless transition from second-tier to Super Lig football.
Now that the report is stating that the deal is worth £8 million, it is indeed a massive rise in value. Considering that the player’s value has increased so much in just one season, he certainly seems to be a player on the rise and it could be a coup considering that Manchester United are also chasing the youngster.
