Tottenham have been able to strike first in the race with Manchester United, as we have reportedly won the race to sign Turkish winger Cengiz Under, who has been rated as the ‘Turkish Paulo Dybala’ for his exploits with Basaksehir. The Sun reports that Spurs have agreed to a £8 million deal with the club after extensive talks over the last few weeks beating Manchester United to his signature. The 19-year-old is expected to complete his transfer in the next few weeks if everything goes well.
Basaksehir had an extraordinary campaign after managing to finish second in the Turkish league table and qualify for the Champions League. Even though they will have to go through several qualifiers in order to reach the group stages, it is seen as a huge achievement for a club which has been unable to finish any higher than fourth in the last couple of years. This has been largely down to the performances of Cengiz Under, who has scored seven goals for the club. In managing to do so, he scored only fewer goals than Višća and the same number of goals as forward Pektemek.
At just 19 years of age, he has certainly caught the attention of the top clubs across European football, who have been scouting for players capable of representing at the very top level. Spurs will be playing in another Champions League campaign after finishing second in the Premier League. More importantly, we will be going after a trophy in order to provide the next motivation for stars like Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
Cengiz Under began his professional career with Altinordu, but his exploits soon earned him a move to Basaksehir. His exploits with the Turkish outfit have now quickly led to a call-up to the national team squad. Even for the Turkish national team, it did not take long for Cengiz Under to make an impact as he scored in the friendly match against Moldova recently. He has one goal in his two appearances for Turkey.
Manchester United were thought to be very keen on the player, but Spurs are now in pole position to sign him.
