Tottenham are looking to sign up Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa according to the Independent and we would have to pay around £30 million to bring the Brazilian over to London.
The 26-year-old has had an on and off relationship with manager Carlo Ancelotti and hasn’t become a first-teamer for the Italian manager. And the Bild has claimed that the German champions are willing to let go of the winger in the summer.
We are in the market for a winger and after Wilfried Zaha signed a new deal keeping him at Crystal Palace, moving for Costa does make a lot of sense. The Brazilian does have the potential to become one of the best attackers in the world and his pace would be great for us next season.
The 26-year-old scored only four times and provided three assists in the Bundesliga last season but those came in 23 appearances with nine of them being substitute appearances.
A quality player to have next season
While he would not be guaranteed a starting spot from the get-go, the sheer number of games we have next season should give him ample opportunities to display his skill and talent.
That, coupled with the fact that Moussa Sissoko is set to leave does place a large hole in our attacking options out wide. Even Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Erik Lamela weren’t up to the mark last season and Costa would certainly be ahead of them in the pecking order, in terms of attacking ability.
For £30 million, the Bayern man would be a fantastic option for us to have. He is extremely skilful and can shred opposition defences apart. The Brazilian also has played for one of the biggest clubs in the world and he would bring a winning mentality to our club, something our current players have to improve.
There might be a number of other clubs looking to sign the attacker but if we move fast we can land the Brazilian. That would be a major statement from the Tottenham board as we look to go one better in the Premier League next season and lift the title.
