Moussa Sissoko is on the verge of completing a £22 million move to Ligue 1 after a poor first season with Tottenham. French publication Lejdd reports that the 27-year-old will move to Marseille in the French league.
It isn’t a surprise seeing that Sissoko’s deal is bring wrapped up quickly as the French midfielder struggled to create an impact last season for us. After we were reported to agree to a shocking £30 million (over 5 seasons) to sign him from relegated Newcastle, Sissoko only added two assists in his 23 Premier League appearances and scored zero goals.
Sissoko probably is one of the worst signings we have made in Premier League era and it was a surprise as to why Mauricio Pochettino even wanted to sign the Frenchman up.
After seeing his playing time in doubt ahead of the new season, Sissoko recently stated that he might be willing to move away for regular time on the pitch. With the World Cup coming in 2018, the former Newcastle man wants to make it to the French side that will play in Russia.
What certainly will upset fans is the fact that we would be making a loss in trying to sell the 27-year-old. However, being able to get rid of him quickly will reduce the damage and ensure that there aren’t any disruptions as the team prepares for another season under the leadership of Pochettino.
A lesson to learn for the manager
This should serve as a bit of a lesson to Poch. He is excellent when it comes to prepping the team up and the performances on the pitch are getting better with each season under him but a lot of work is to be done regarding our transfer policy.
Sissoko isn’t the only big-money signing that has failed in recent seasons with players such as Kevin Wimmer and Vincent Janssen struggling to break into the first team.
We can all raise our hand and say that the Sissoko deal was a poor one for both player and the club and hopefully we learn from this and won’t make the same mistakes again.
