Kyle Walker

Surprise! The Kyle Walker transfer saga is witnessing some unbelievable twists and turns. The 27-year-old Englishman has been a subject of much speculation in recent weeks and was dropped from the side for the final few weeks of the campaign where he was replaced by Kieran Trippier.

Since then, it has all been speculation regarding his future and he has been linked with a big-money move to Manchester City. However, things do not end here. The latest development in this story is that we have increased our asking price for Kyle Walker to £60million which could probably stop Manchester City from pursuing the English right-back.

As a matter of fact, the price tag can be justified. A certain Man City defender joined them from Everton for a price of £47.5million. If such an overrated player gets such a huge proce tag, why shouldn’t the best right-back in England get a £60million price tag? Walker’s contract runs until 2021 and Tottenham are under no pressure to sell at all.

Walker hasn’t expressed any signs of being unhappy and has remained tight-lipped about his future. He has no other choice as going for a war against the club would be a disaster for him. He is 27-years old, is the first choice for the England national team, and is a top class player. Going against the club will only lead to him being frozen out of the team and with 4 more years left on his contract, Walker simply cannot afford to do this.

It is a good move by Tottenham to try and get as much money as possible for Walker as he is at the right age. In case he is unhappy at the club, let him be! There is no necessity for us to compromise on the money that we’d receive by selling him. In case if Pochettino feels that Walker is being toxic in the dressing room, there is always an option of removing from the set-up completely.

So it is better that Walker handles this properly. No player is bigger than the club and if Walker can change his mind and compromise with Poch and the management, things would still be sweet.

  1. I think you are right about everything, except we haven’t suddenly raised the price. The £40 million was just an arbitrary amount that City had their friends in the media put out as being how much City were”prepared to pay”. It was a well-worn part of the tapping-up process. And as such was a little bit low-ball.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people seem to think that gave the price any validity in reality.

But your arguments as to why it should be the higher figure are correct IMHO. Personally, if the claim by Iheanacho’s agent, that City won’t sell to Spurs as they are direct rivals, is correct, I would negotiate a price and then slap a £25 million surcharge on. This would be applicable to any of our rivals any time they think they can bitch us out of a player while refusing to sell to us. And removable the minute they issue a public statement stating that they hold no such policy!

  2. You do know that NONE of the above has happened don’t you? Manchester City have not been in contact with Tottenham Hotspur re Walker. If/when they are the club will react.
