Tottenham Ready To Complete Deal For £17million, But German Club Are Not Willing To Accept The Price

Kevin Wimmer of Tottenham

Kevin Wimmer might be heading back to Germany where we signed him from a couple of years ago. We all remember signing the Austrian back in 2015 from Koln but he has not been able to cement his place in the first team.

According to German publication Express, Wimmer’s former club is interested in signing the 24-year-old but the hurdle standing in the way is our valuation.

The report claims that we want close to £17.5 million for Wimmer’s sale, something that Koln don’t want to stump up even though the Austrian is young and has a lot of potential.

A lack of playing time and failure to impress

Wimmer has only played in 28 games across two seasons and he is one of the players that needs regular football should he want to play in the World Cup in 2018. Of course, Austria has to qualify first but every footballer wants to play as many games as possible.

What we want from his sale certainly isn’t a ludicrous amount and does count for his development while playing under Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching team.

While Wimmer hasn’t wowed anyone with his performances, he didn’t actually perform poorly and the only reason we are letting him go is that he couldn’t break into the Jan Vertonghen-Toby Alderweireld partnership.

The Belgian pair are the best in the Premier League and not many centre-back partnerships are better than theirs.

We do need to get rid of players that don’t add much to the squad and some of our purchases have come under question, especially in recent times under Pochettino.

Wimmer, Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen come to mind and getting rid of them as soon as possible would allow us to plan for next season’s arrivals.

Despite the selling price of Wimmer being a haggle for Koln, we do expect him to leave and Daniel Levy will ensure he gets as much as he can for the 24-year-old defender. There were high expectations when we did sign the then 22-year-old but things didn’t work out and hopefully, he will have a better time on the pitch when he joins his new club.
