Erik Lamela missed out on a number of Premier League games for us last season and that did cost us somewhere down the line as we didn’t have enough fit players to change the squad up when needed.
While Lamela has been out for a while, he seems to be working out hard to ensure his full fitness ahead of the new season.
The 25-year-old Argentine was seen taking up a lot of water aerobic classes and he even posted a video of the same on his Instagram account.
Injuries have played a major part in his career at the Lane and the former Roma and River Plate attacker has been out of action since a second hip surgery at the club. Lamela only played 12 games all season for us last time around, certainly not good enough to be considered an option that can be trusted by Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine picked up an injury after the EFL Cup defeat against Liverpool and it was expected to be a minor one but he underwent a procedure for his hip in April and it was deemed a success.
There have been a number of reports claiming that the former Roma star is on the verge of an exit from the club but this video does prove that Lamela isn’t taking things lying down and is trying his level best to come back fitter and stronger next season.
We will need as many fit players as we can get our hands on next season as we were a little lucky when it came to injuries to our main players. This season already has started on a bad note with Son picking up a broken hand while on duty with South Korea and we might need Lamela quicker than expected.
The 25-year-old would have a point to prove not only to Poch but also the fans and if he does stay at the club, he can only get better and maybe even break into the first team for good. Lamela does have a lot of talent but it will be interesting to see how this injury has affected his playing style.
We have a long and interesting season ahead of us and hopefully, Lamela will play a major role in the same.
