Tottenham In Talks With Former Midfielder Over A Coaching Role After He Announces Retirement

Tottenham Hotspur are in discussions with former midfielder Scott Parker about him taking up a role as one of the club’s coaching staff.

The 36-year old Parker announced on Wednesday that he will be retiring from football, after 20 years in the game. The Englishman, who spent the last four years of his career with Championship side Fulham, and has now decided to hang up his boots.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Parker is having talks with officials at Tottenham over the prospect of taking up a coaching role with the academy, in order to kickstart a career in football management.

Parker is fondly remembered for his time with Tottenham between 2011 and 2013, during which he made 63 appearances for the club, before moving on to join Fulham. When he joined Spurs, he became the only player to have played for clubs in North, South, East and West London.

Parker started his footballing journey with Charlton Athletic, and went on to represent the likes of Norwich City (loan), Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. He retires after having amassed a total of 572 appearances at club level and has scored 36 goals. Parker also has 18 caps for the England national team.

In his glittering career, Parker won the First Division title with Charlton (1999-00), the League Cup with Chelsea (2004-05) and the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Newcastle United (2006). The former England midfielder was named the PFA Young Player of the Year with Chelsea in 2003-04 and was honoured with the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of The Year award in 2010-11 with West Ham United and England Player of the Year in 2011.

Parker was also named in the PFA Team of the Year for the season 2011-12, in his first year with Tottenham Hotspur. The midfielder completed some of his coaching badges during his time at the White Hart Lane, under the guidance of Tottenham academy head John McDermott. He was involved in coaching several young players occasionally during his playing days with us.

According to the report, there are other options on the table for Parker to consider, but the 36-year old has still undecided on his future. But Spurs are hopeful that he’d choose a coaching role at the club.
