Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will have every reason to be disappointed that the club has not even made a major signing for the summer, at a time when most of the rivals like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are actively pursuing transfers. Even Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of Alexandre Lacazette in the next few days (Le Progress via Standard). Keen to set things into motion, Tottenham have made serious enquiries about Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva, according to a report on A Bola.

Silva has long been on the wish-list of Tottenham, as he will be a signing who can make an instant impact in the first team. At 28 years of age, he will bring a wealth of experience of having played in Europe for a long time. The midfielder came through the ranks at Bordeaux before moving to Sporting in 2001. After having spent the majority of his professional career with the Portuguese club, it has been reported that he may be interested in the possibility of a new challenge in the prime of his career.

After having suffered a major disappointment with the signing of Moussa Sissoko last summer, Spurs are expected to cut their losses by selling the French midfielder to a French club with Marseille showing a lot of interest (Mirror). As a replacement, Silva could be brought into the Spurs setup in the summer.

The player has a contract with Sporting Lisbon until 2020 which does place the Portuguese outfit in a relatively strong position. After having made more than 200 appearances for the club, there is a feeling within the Tottenham camp that the Portuguese outfit may be prepared to relax the valuation of the player.

It is believed that an offer of around €30million will be enough to sign him. Spurs are reportedly preparing an offer worth around €25million initially with a further €5million available as bonuses based on performances. We are believed to have made an initial offer of €20million, which has been rejected by Sporting Lisbon.

Even though Spurs have been linked with a number of players, we have been unable to bring in any major signings so far this transfer window. Among the latest players to be linked with a move to Tottenham, Bournemouth striker Joshua King looks like an exciting name, but even here, we face stiff competition with Everton also looking at the striker (Mirror).

  1. Pochetino will just give up on Levy and move on. Who can blame him, he must be a nightmare as a boss.
