Odds for Tottenham Hotspur capturing the signing of former midfielder and Swansea City mainstay Gylfi Sigurdsson have been slashed by betting agency Ladbrokes.
The 27-year old Swans’ Player of the Year has been heavily linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium, following a stellar campaign, in which he helped the Welsh club stay afloat in the top-division. Sigurdsson finished the season with excellent returns of 9 goals and 13 assists and has peaked interests of several clubs.
However, it was Everton who were considered the most likely destination for the Icelandic international. The Toffees manager Ronald Koeman is an admirer of the player’s talents and they had eyed him as the ideal replacement for Ross Barkley who is set for an exit from the Goodison Park.
But reports emerged that Swansea rejected a bid from the Merseysiders (ESPN) which has left the playing field open for other clubs.
Tottenham are yet to make any inroads in the transfer market. While there hasn’t been any concrete interest shown in the Icelander from our part, Ladbrokes have slashed the odds of him joining us to 13/8 from 12/1.
Everton still remain the favourites to sign him at 4/6, but the main reason behind this sudden rise in chances of us landing him is this cryptic tweet that the club posted on their social media account.
Five years ago today Gylfi Sigurðsson joined the Club. We've picked out some of his best strikes in a Spurs shirt… 🚀 👌 #COYS pic.twitter.com/0yY4ZyhsrL

Sigurdsson joined us exactly five years ago, on 4th July 2012, from German club TSG Hoffenheim. While he did not have the best of the times at the White Hart Lane and was sold to Swansea two seasons later, the club deemed it fit to remind the fans of the occasion.
The 27-year old departed the club having made 83 appearances in which he managed to score 13 goals and set up 9. However, he has thrived since he left us and has developed into one of the finest playmakers in the Premier League.
Would you fancy a return to the North London for Sigurdsson?
