Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has claimed that Harry Kane may leave Tottenham Hotspur, only if an offer from Real Madrid lands on his doorstep.
There have been frequent rumours about Kane’s future, despite the player stating that he wants to remain loyal to Tottenham. Kane has been linked with numerous clubs, including Manchester United, who have been chasing the forward for quite a while now. After back-to-back Golden Boot awards, Kane’s stature in the game has risen even more.
Early on in his career, Kane had a lot of critics who doubted his ability to sustain his goal-scoring form. Yet, the 23-year-old has proved to be much better than originally imagined, as he has now scored a remarkable 94 goals in the last three seasons. As a result, his transfer valuation has shot beyond £100million and there have even been reports about Spurs placing a £200million valuation on the player in order to ward off the interest from Manchester United.
Sherwood said he expects the player to remain at Spurs irrespective of any interest from other clubs, but he reckons that the entry of Real Madrid could change the picture. Speaking to talkSport, he said:
“I hope that he stays at Tottenham for the rest of his career. Will he stay at Tottenham for the rest of his career? I think the only danger of that would be a team in another white shirt across the water in Madrid.”
Tottenham have previously shown that the lure of the Spanish club will be extremely hard to resist, and the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have made the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in the past.
Kane’s achievements last season were even more impeccable considering that he was unavailable for 11 games in the campaign. Even then, he managed to comfortably finish on top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts. At just 23 years of age, Kane has the ability to keep on going for the next decade.
Spurs will be concerned that Manchester United have not been able to sign a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic so far. It is now down to the club’s pursuit of players in the transfer market, and they may eventually turn their attention seriously towards Kane if none of the targets materialise.
