Tottenham In Talks With 19-Year Old Argentine Defender

published :

Promising Argentine defender Juan Foyth may head to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, after the player confirmed that negotiations with the club are imminent.

Earlier this week, a report in the Mirror claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were monitoring the youngster, who plies his trade for Argentine side Estudiantes. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also stated that Serie A side AS Roma are also interested in the player.

The 19-year old centre-back who is very highly thought of in his homeland, has now come out into the press and revealed that there may be negotiations with the North Londoners in the near future. Speaking to Radio Continental in Argentina, Foyth said:

“I found out about Tottenham’s interest through social networks. I would like to play in Europe, if something comes up that convinces me and the club I will go. I know that my agent and [Juan Sebastien] Veron are able to travel over the Tottenham issue. I am feeling relaxed, on the outside of things.

There had been interest in the player from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, managed by former Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini. The Russian side have already signed fellow Argentines Leandro Paredes and Sebastian Driussi. However, the 19-year old ruled out a move to Russia, saying that he would move there only to help out his club financially. He said:

“My agent never told me that an offer had arrived from Zenit. I would not go to Russia right now. If I do go it is not because I want to, but rather to help the club out economically.”

Having been with the club since a very young age, Foyth made his debut for the Estudiantes senior team earlier this year, against Patronato de Parana in the Argentine Primera Division. Since then he has gone on to play 7 times for his club and has established himself as an important member of the team, within a handful of appearances.

Foyth was a part of the Argentina U-20 side that finished fourth in the 2017 Sudamericano Sub 20 held in Ecuador in February this year, and was also part of the Argentina U-20 squad that traveled to South Korea for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where they were dumped out of the competition at the group stages.

Primarily a centre-back, Foyth can also play in a defensive midfield role as well. The Mirror also claims that the player has a £5million buy-out clause.
