According to the Sunday Mirror, the Premier League trio of Tottenham, Man United and Everton are all chasing Ezequiel Garay this summer. The Valencia defender has been linked with a move to England, for several years.
Manchester United had been heavily linked with Garay before his move to Zenit St Petersburg. In 2016, he moved to Valencia. His move to Russia, disappointed many United fans.
The Sunday Mirror has reported that Garay is not keen on a move away from the Mestella. However, Valencia could be willing to sell if his £18.5m valuation is met.
The Argentinian international is rated as one of the best centre-backs in La Liga. A former Real Madrid player, he brings great experience and composure. Garay played 27 times for Valencia in La Liga last season, scoring 4 goals. Los Che finished 12th in the table, in what was a disappointing campaign. However, Garay impressed.
The player seems settled at Valencia but their lack of European football may ensure that he needs to be sold on if a big enough offer comes in. Garay could prove to be a tough man to target, for any potential suiters.
Manchester United have already signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica this summer. Jose Mourinho would still like more defensive cover though.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are yet to sign a player so far, this transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino is determined to strengthen his squad, and a new centre-back is a priority. Garay, a fellow Argentinian, has been targeted by the Spurs boss.
Though our playing XI was high quality, we lacked depth and that proved to be crucial in the title race. It is important that we strengthen our squad depth next season by signing quality players and Garay might prove to be a great option for us.
Alderweireld and Vertonghen are virtually irremovable from our lineup and it will be difficult for any defender who comes in, to displace them and earn a place in the eleven.
Dier is a quality player but Wimmer needs to be sold. Selling Wimmer and buying Garay seems to be the right thing to do.
