In a massive turn of an event, Everton have officially confirmed that their 23-year-old midfielder Ross Barkley has been left out of the squad which has travelled to Tanzania on Tuesday night. Citing the reason, the Toffees have quoted that he has been left out due to “a groin injury for which he is receiving treatment”.

Three of their new signings – Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen have joined the travelling side, while the likes of Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez, who participated in the Under-21 European Championship, will return later this month.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old Three-Lion. Barkley, who only has one more year left in his current Everton deal, is yet to put pen to a new contract, and if the reports are to be believed, he might well leave the Goodison this summer.

There are high chances that he will reject any new offer Everton put on the table, hence, Ronald Koeman will look to gather a bit of capital by sanctioning his sale this summer rather than losing him for free next year. This is a transfer story that has been going on for a while now and we hope it comes to a conclusion soon.

Having said that, Tottenham fans were spotted having mixed emotions and this is how they reacted to the news.

  1. Certainly don’t need him for 30/35millon as you can get a much better player on a different level to Barkley, and filling more roles and his name is kovecic!
    Must get him full stop.
The main reason I can see Pochettino getting Barkley is to nurture him into Dembele role, but like I said kovecic is on a different level to Barkley and plays that role naturally and at the same price, no brainier!

  2. This would be one of the absolute worst signings Spurs could make. I think 20 mil is even too much. I wouldn’t spend more than 15mil on Barkley. If Kovacic is being valued at 22mil and is on a 60k per week salary, why would Spurs pass him up for Barkley? Barks is completely overrated and backed by hype. He should go to a mid table team where he belongs. Dier is not going anywhere. Dier is NOT unsettled and does not want to go to Man U. Those reports are completely fabricated. Anyway, Barkley wouldn’t be able to replace Dier.

  3. Exactly. Spur would be stupid to sign Barkley if they could get Kovacic for 22 mil. Not even close in my book. Barkley stinks compared to him. There are many other players I would look at before Barkley if I were them. And as you say, Kovacic is the perfect Dembele cushion. Barkley would just be a crappy sub for Eriksen. Spurs have Lamela, Son, Alli, Onomah, Winks, and eventually Marcus Edwards. Not even going to count Sissoko. They need one DLP that can also back up Eriksen. Or a DLP and a CAM that can play all 3 positions up front. Barkley is neither.

  4. I should add, Gilfy Sigurdsson would be almost as bad a signing as Barkley. Spurs would be dumb to bid on either player. Kovacic, Max Meyers, Lemar, Werner , maybe Adrien Silva… these are the type of players Spurs should be going after. A class above the likes of Sigurdsson and Barkley.
