Tottenham fans have a reason to celebrate, coming all the way from South Korea, as forward Son Heung-Min is set to join Tottenham Hotspur pre-season training.

The 25-year-old sustained a fractured arm last month while on international duty with South Korea, during a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Qatar. He had to undergo a surgery in Seoul and was supposed to be out of action for 12 weeks in order to recover fully.

However, as per a report from Korea Herald, the forward is progressing well in his recovery and could be ready to play in South Korea’s upcoming World Cup qualifier at home against Iran on August 31, 2017.

Son is certain to miss the preseason matches for Tottenham in the United States later this month. He is likely to be sidelined for the start of the new Premier League season too.

The former Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen forward joined White Hart Lane in 2015 and has made 62 appearances in total, scoring 29 goals. After initially struggling to adapt to the pace of English Premier League, Son started showing his true value during the previous campaign.

Last season saw Son net 21 goals in all competitions – easily his best season after a poor 2015-16 season. His tally broke the record for the most goals by a South Korean in Europe. The previous record was held by Cha Bum-Kun who scored 19 goals for Leverkusen in the 1985-86 season.

More than the quantum of goals he scored last year, Son’s timing of the goals made him a darling with Tottenham’s fans. Almost all his goals came at crucial junctures in important clashes, especially when Harry Kane was injured.

Finding a partner for Kane has been one of the burning problems for Pochettino, who could not get the required number of goals from Vincent Janssen. Thanks to Son’s exploits, Kane’s absence was never felt.

New season comes with a lot of hopes for Tottenham, who want to challenge not just at home but also in Europe. In addition to making the right purchases, Pochettino will hope to have his best players fit and raring to go. One can only hope that the injury to Son doesn’t hamper our start!
