Our club record signing Moussa Sissoko is on the verge of creating another record. After being omitted from the pre-season tour to United States – although officially it is because of a virus – the French Midfielder already has a foot outside the exit door.
As Daily Mail reported, Tottenham are ready to cut their losses on Sissoko for whom we have paid a staggering £30million on the final day of last summer transfer window.
The midfielder has barely started games for us and almost all his appearances have been as a late substitute. He is no longer in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino and is willing to move on in the coming weeks. However, it is his wage demands that are believed to be causing problems.
Sissoko gets paid £85,000 per week which is ticking suitors like Marseille off. Tottenham are bracing for the scenario of supplementing his wages to make him attractive to other clubs. We could possibly be robbed of a substantial chunk of the transfer fees too!
The Frenchman had come with a lot of fanfare and expectations around this time last year. We beat off strong competition as many clubs across Europe were ready to take him on their books.
Contrast to that now, clubs are not looking at him as an option now. He still has the potential to be a good starter at any other club if he can compromise with his salary demands. His situation reminds us of one certain Emmanuel Adebayor, when the Togo international saw a huge chunk of his wages paid by Manchester City while playing for us!
Will it help Tottenham if Sissoko is pushed out? Let’s face the reality, he is not an option for us next season and the prospect of his chances of first-team action improving are as bleak as Eric Dier leaving us. If we can free up Sissoko’s salary off the books, the incoming transfer business could speed up.
Either way, it is going to be a crucial couple of weeks for the club and the player as the exit sign board starts glowing bright!
