Tottenham are the only club in the Premier League who have not made a signing in the summer window but things could get rather tasty for us given that we have made an enquiry for Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City, according to the Express.
The Algerian was one of the reasons why the Foxes picked up the Premier League title a couple of seasons ago but now wants to leave the King Power Stadium based side and wants to play Champions League football.
The report also claims that the winger has been linked with a move to Italian giants AS Roma but Leicester have rejected two bids from the Serie A side. Roma seem to have become frustrated by the former champions and will not be returning for a third bid.
Should we think that we are the only team looking to sign the 2016 PFA Player of the Year, that is not the case as our biggest rivals Arsenal are also tracking the Algerian and could make a move for him should they not be able to sign Thomas Lemar of Monaco.
The Gunners were linked with a move for the 26-year-old last season but Mahrez decided to stick around with Leicester for one more year.
Leicester also have put up a price tag of £50 million for Mahrez who did help the Foxes recover from a dreadful start to last season.
The Algerian scored 10 goals and provided seven assists to help Leicester stave off relegation and now he wants to return to playing in the Champions League.
And that is something he can achieve while playing for us next season. We have been linked with a number of players but we haven’t really made a lot of moves in the transfer window.
We did get a sizeable chunk of money by selling Kyle Walker and for all of Daniel Levy’s talks of promoting youth players and not buying big, we need to make a statement and sign a player that will push us and make us better.
Mahrez will relish playing in the Champions League and with our style of play, he could be almost perfect for us too. The problem lies with his price tag and it will be a major surprise if Levy does pay £50 million to get the 26-year-old.
