French Report Suggest That Tottenham Receive Green Light To Sign Manchester United Transfer Target

published :

Tottenham have received a major boost in the hopes of signing PSG full-back Serge Aurier, as it has been reported by Le Parisien that several clubs have now decided against signing the Ivorian. Aurier is widely expected to leave PSG after the club signed Dani Alves on a free transfer from Juventus.

The 24-year-old was a regular first-team player for the club since coming from Toulouse in the summer of 2015. He has been a consistent player for the club but PSG have been looking to go with highly experienced players in order to do well in the Champions League. This has left the door open for several clubs to sign Aurier at a much attractive price.

It is believed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is one of the names interested in signing the 24-year-old, but there are issues in completing a transfer. There have been a number of reports (Paris United, via The Sun) doing the rounds that the Red Devils have also agreed to terms with the player, but with nothing official yet, Spurs are looking to take advantage of the situation by making a quick move for the player.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on a right-back after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City. Spurs have come in for criticism from fans and media for the lack of activity in the transfer market, while Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has even gone to the extent of questioning the ambitions of the club. Spurs do have Kieran Trippier who is capable of stepping into the shoes of Walker, but they maybe left without a backup for the former Burnley defender.

Signing Aurier will not only be a statement of intent from Spurs, as we would have overcome the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan in the race to sign the player. It would also provide Pochettino with a much-needed option at the back. Juventus and Barcelona were understood to be the clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old, but they have now decided to pursue other targets. Manchester City have also dropped out of the race after signing several fullbacks in this window.

The chances are good that we could actually sign Serge Aurier.
