Tottenham are a handful of clubs who are tracking Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, according to Sky Sports. The Foxes are in no mood of selling the talented 21-year-old and have already held talks regarding his future. However, the Englishman wants more first-team football and it has been reported that he has become upset with the lack of playing time at Leicester.
Gray made 41 appearances for Leicester in all competitions last season but only 14 of them came as starts. The Englishman ended up scoring 2 goals in all competitions for the Foxes and had 5 assists to add to that tally.
While it was tough to push Riyad Mahrez out of the first-team, Marc Albrighton was the other winger given a chance in the side and possibly, Gray expected to replace the former Aston Villa man for a greater number of games.
A Great Talent To Have For Any Side
Gray would be a fantastic signing for us, given that he can play anywhere across the front line and even step up as a striker should that be the requirement. The 21-year-old is quick, tricky and has a great whip to his crosses – something that would excite Harry Kane and also the rest of our fan base.
Mauricio Pochettino does have a history of pushing young players and making them better, such as with Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Harry Winks.
The deal would not be easy to complete as Leicester don’t want to sell now. Also, the fact that Everton and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund want to sign the Englishman from the Foxes makes it a little difficult for us.
Gray has shown glimpses of his ability and it is a little weird as to why he has not been given a consistent run of games at Leicester. First Claudio Ranieri and now Craig Shakespeare don’t seem to trust him playing from the start of games.
We need cover for our wide areas given that Son Heung-Min and Erik Lamela will be out for a while due to their respective injuries. Gray could be one of the more economical options in the transfer window.
Even if we cannot sign the 21-year-old up, we can try to get him on loan, which would be a decent first signing to have given our lack of activity in the summer.
