Tottenham Could Complete First Summer Transfer By Signing Southampton Goalkeeper

Tottenham are set to make their first signing of the summer according to The Sun and it is going to be a goalkeeper. Before we all bring up the name of Pau Lopez, who was on loan at the Lane last season, the tabloid claims that we will be signing Southampton’s third-choice keeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The 25-year-old played on loan at Rayo Vallecano last season in the Spanish second division though he does have some Premier League experience. The Argentine played 21 Premier League games across a span of four seasons for the Saints as he was cover for Artur Boruc, Fraser Forster and even Kelvin Davies.

It is a bit of a surprise seeing the name of the Argentine being linked with a move to us as we were always in the running to sign Lopez on a permanent deal with us. The Spaniard was on loan at the Lane last season but didn’t make a single appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

The 22-year-old has returned to his parent club, Espanyol, and we were looking to complete a deal and bring him over to London for good.

A Known Player To Our Manager, With Premier League Experience

Gazzaniga is a known entity to Pochettino during the gaffer’s time at the Saints a few seasons ago. The 25-year-old is also someone with a lot of experience of residing in England and the report from the Sun claims that we will be spending only £2million in bringing the keeper over to Wembley.

That would be a pretty decent deal in bringing a player that knows Poch and what he would expect. But playing in the second division of Spain doesn’t really cut the mustard compared to training regularly with the first-team squad of Spurs, such as the case of Lopez.

Gazzaniga wouldn’t be our first-choice keeper and is expected to be the cover for Hugo Lloris and he could even push Michel Vorm for a spot on the bench. While we have not signed a single player in the summer yet, this could be the deal that could open the doors for the bigger transfers to go through.
