For all the fans who are upset with the summer transfer activity, there is some good news. Although it is criminal to take solace in a non-related activity, the progress in the construction of the new stadium should keep the Spurs fans happy.
The pictures of the new stadium construction have surfaced in the media (via Daily Mail) and give us a peek into what promises to be a state of the art stadium at par with the best of the world.
The stadium that is being constructed on the same site as the previous one is sure to take its place of pride among European football’s elite as a top-quality sports venue.
Building work has fully kicked into operation and the new pictures show that the 61,559-seater is well on its way to completion. It would be ready in time for the 2018/19 season with Tottenham playing the home games this season at Wembley.
The sloping apex designs of the terraces bring inevitable comparisons with the Emirates Stadium of Arsenal, although fans wouldn’t be complaining about the overall image.
A single-tier south stand will hold around 17,000 spectators, which should easily rival ‘The Kop’ at Anfield or the famous ‘Yellow Wall’ of Borussia Dortmund. Once the stadium comes to full life, I am sure we will boast of the loudest support in world football, thanks to this stand.
Another unique feature of the new stadium is the seating arrangement. With the front row only five meters away from the touchline, it would bring supporters closer to the action than any other stadium in the United Kingdom.
As things pick up the pace at the new stadium, Mauricio Pochettino will take his side to Wembley to play the home games this season. Hopefully, we will not replicate the dismal European run at Wembley and rather continue to challenge for top honours.
Amidst all this excitement, I can’t stop wondering if this wonderful piece of development has – in one way or the other – restricted our summer spending. We are yet to sign a single player this window leaving the fans frustrated and worried. The photos of the new stadium should cheer them up!
