Italian journalist Giovani Capuano reports over his Twitter account that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to hijack Denis Suarez’s proposed move to Napoli.
The Barcelona midfielder was courted by the Serie A side for a long time. According to Spanish media reports from Mundo Deportivo (via Metro), Napoli were leading the race for the signature of the 23-year-old before a late dash from the North London outfit.

Spurs are the only side yet to add a player to their ranks this summer but it remains to be seen if Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add more muscle to his midfield, which is already well stocked.
A former Manchester City academy graduate, Suarez was poached by Barcelona in 2013. At a time when Barcelona graduates were the toast of Europe, Suarez did the reverse and caught the attention of everyone.
However, he has struggled to hold his own at Nou Camp and has remained on the periphery of the senior side thus far. No wonder then that he is looking for a move away from the club. Napoli were long credited with an interest and even the player’s camp was reported to be positively inclined; until now that is, as Tottenham look convinced to gatecrash Napoli. It is reported that both teams are looking to bid £27million for the midfielder.
Not Really!
There is no doubt about Suarez’s ability – his technique and driving ability with the ball will be a plus for any side – but Pochettino has a number of quality midfielders at his disposal.
Being the only side without a summer signing so far is putting pressure on the manager but I don’t think he would go for Suarez. Even the player would understand that he would just be moving from the Barcelona bench to the Tottenham bench if he accepts this deal.
Spurs remain interested in many other players and look set to add a few before the transfer window closes. Denis Suarez to be one of them looks highly improbable!
