Is Mauricio Pochettino looking to further strengthen his defence this summer? Going by the latest reports from Swiss newspaper Blick, it appears so. Tottenham Hotspur are credited with an interest and are reportedly scouting Young Boys defender Kasim Nuhu.
The 22-year-old joined the Swiss side only last year but it is reported that the Lilywhites have scouted him multiple times with a view of making a transfer. The report suggests that the Swiss club prices the player at around £8million. Although the club would be reluctant at losing the youngster after just one season, if there is a right offer on the table, they may be swayed to do business – something that should encourage Spurs.
So, who is Kasim Nuhu? The Ghanaian youngster is rated very highly within the club, who signed him from Mallorca only last season after initially getting him on loan.
The towering defender has already impressed in the Champions League playoffs, which have alerted Premier League sides. It is reported that apart from Spurs, even Newcastle United are interested in signing the player who is described by Young Boys skipper as someone who “can do it all”.
So, what is this new interest on defenders? Tottenham boasts one of the best defensive partnerships at the heart of the back four in the form of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
The duo is not getting any younger and there are concerns over Alderweireld’s long-term future at the club too, as discussions over his new contract have stalled. Irrespective of this, Pochettino always has an eye for youngsters and no wonder then that Nuhu is being scouted by the Spurs.
Having already signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax to strengthen the defence and having been linked with a potential deal for Juan Foyth of Estudiantes, it seems like the defence is the flavor of the summer at the White Hart Lane. For the quoted fee in this inflated market, Nuhu could prove a bargain.
What do you think? Do you see Nuhu as a bargain buy or is the presence of Cameron Carter-Vickers enough?
