published :

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Argentine club Estudiantes over the transfer of their 19-year-old centre-back Juan Foyth, reports The Guardian. The Lilywhites have been in talks with Estudiantes for a long time and are hoping to reach an agreement soon, which will see them paying £9million for the youngster. Right at this very moment, Foyth is training away from his Estudiantes teammates.

The deal is still yet to be finalised, hence it has been reported that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan are also vying to acquire his signature. However, Tottenham have reportedly edged ahead of these two European giants.

Pochettinho has only made one signing so far, with Davinson Sanchez arriving from Ajax for a club record fee of £42million. The Lilly-Whites have paid £28million fee directly up front, while the remaining £14milliom will be performance-related bonuses.

Furthermore, Argentine news outlet El Dia have claimed that Foyth’s move to North London is 90% done and that the versatile defender is expected to fly to London in coming days ahead of his proposed move. Mauricio Pochettino, on his part, has played a huge role in this transfer. The Argetina U-20 international, Foyth is described as one of the best ball-playing defenders. However, it is highly unlikely that he will be slotted directly into the first team.

Maybe, Pochettino will look to provide him a competitive environment, hence, a loan move for the youngster can be expected. The manager has been insistent on adding new faces to the squad, after a slow start to the summer window.

Starting off the new campaign on a high, beating Newcastle 2-0 away from home, Tottenham slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea and this, besides outlining our Wembley woes, disposed our defensive steel. We now play Burnley this weekend and Pochettino will be hoping for a good result this time around.
