Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be eyeing a shock move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi before the end of the summer transfer window. (The Sun)
It is a very interesting link although the Belgian hitman has fallen down in the pecking order at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp doesn’t see him as his first choice squad member. In fact, the youngster hasn’t made it to the matchday squad for the midweek Champions League win over Hoffenheim.
Klopp loves using Firminho as a ‘false nine’ instead of using Origi or Daniel Sturridge. The Reds have signed Dominic Solanke from Chelsea in this transfer window who would be another option up front for Klopp. That has led to speculation that Origi could be allowed to move on.
With his hopes of making it to the World Cup squad on the line, Origi wants to play regularly this year and wants a move out. The Sun reports that Tottenham could be interested in his services and Klopp wouldn’t be averse to the move.
Any move for the player would depend on the Reds’ own deals for other players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of Arsenal before the deadline day on Thursday.
The 22-year-old was signed from Lille in 2014 and has scored 12 times in 51 appearances for Liverpool so far. Klopp is a huge fan of the player but is now reported to be ready to cash in.
What is Spurs’ interest?
Spurs are late starters in this transfer window with just two signings so far in the form of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.
We are thin on options for back-up to Harry Kane and that has shown many times last season. Vincent Janssen has struggled to adapt to life and there are rumors that he would be allowed to leave the club. (Evening Standard)
That could make Origi a nice back-up for Kane. There is never a doubt about the Belgian’s pace or skills and under Pochettino he can surely improve.
However, I doubt if Liverpool would be ready to do business with Spurs and strengthen a direct title rival. Otherwise, this deal should sound exciting for the fans.
