Kevin Wimmer’s torrid time at Tottenham has come to an end as the Austrian has been sold to Stoke City for a fee of £18million. The former Koln defender was expected to challenge the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld but he never was able to threaten the Belgian pair.
The Austrian, though, was a decent player to have in our side and losing him might come back to bite us as we only have Davinson Sanchez as someone who can step in and provide cover in the defence department.
This could also raise the possibility of Daniel Levy bringing in a few more players before the transfer window closes. Serge Aurier and Ross Barkley have been linked with us for a while and it seems a move for Aurier, the PSG right-back, is pretty close to completion.
Very happy to be here @stokecity !! Can’t wait to get started. Thank u to everyone @SpursOfficial for a great time see u soon. #SCFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/n7aruUF5yt

Wimmer made 31 appearances for us across the last two seasons and even though he didn’t really shine for us, he would have wanted to play regular football ahead of a World Cup year. Getting £18million for the 24-year-old is also a steal. This is an inflated market so a lot cannot be gauged from the money received.
Twitter was filled with reactions for the deal and here are some of the best tweets from the social networking site.

Wimmer is a decent player, who found it hard to get a game with us, but £18m shows the silly money in the EPL right now. #COYS

Kevin Wimmer just didn’t get the chances at Spurs and was never likely to with Toby & Jan. £18M is prob about right in today’s market. #COYS

Really sad to see Kevin Wimmer go. Not sure what happened after excellent first season but clearly not an option for us anymore #COYS

Can understand Wimmer leaving Spurs, but kind of like to be buying players, not selling them #THFC #COYS

2015: #Coys sign Kevin Wimmer for £4.3m.
2017: After making 15 unconvincing PL appearances in two years, #Coys sell Wimmer for £18m.
