Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney according to reports coming from Germany. The Sport Bild (h/t Weser Kurier) reports that Spurs are interested in signing the Danish international and have joined the race for his signature.
Delaney is international teammate of Christian Eriksen and Mauricio Pochettino will hope that he can use his playmaker as an incentive in the pursuit of Delaney. The 26-year-old is under contract at Bremen until 2021 which puts his club in a better bargaining position. However, the player is keen to move to the next level and test himself regularly at a club of the stature of Tottenham.
With the club not in any urgent need of selling the player, it is being reported in the German press that Bremen could look for at least €15million for the player.
He joined Bremen from FC Copenhagen for just €2million this past January and has impressed in the first half of his debut season in the Bundesliga.
However, it is his form this season – both with the club and the country, that has caught the attention of everyone. He has scored five goals in his past three matches with four of them coming in Denmark colors during the international break.
That includes a hat-trick against Armenia and the central midfielder is definitely a hot property in the Bundesliga right now. Spurs will have competition for his signature, with Premier League rivals Everton also reportedly interested in his signature.
Being a central midfielder, Delaney will find it difficult to immediately break into the first XI at White Hart Lane if he makes the move. However, he plays alongside Eriksen in a three-man midfield for his country and that could possibly be a route Mauricio Pochettino may be interested.
The Danish midfielder could be a valuable addition to our midfield resources. Hopefully, Pochettino can use his playmaker’s services to lure his countryman to Tottenham.
