Tottenham Hotspur received a boost in their pursuit of Mark Uth of Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, as it has been reported that the striker could run down his contract with the club so that he can leave for free next summer.
The 26-year-old striker is one of the most prolific in the Bundesliga and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Hoffenheim will be under pressure if they end up losing him for nothing.
German publication Kicker (h/t talkSPORT) believes that the forward is willing to let his deal run down and then look at his options as a free agent. The Bundesliga side is aware of the possibilities and have been trying to tie him down on a long-term basis. However, the player’s camp is rejecting all the advances.
It is Tottenham who are said to be leading the long line of admirers for the German striker. The former Germany youth international has scored 5 times in 7 appearances this season. It includes a brace against Champions Bayern Munich that helped his team to a surprising 2-0 win earlier this month.
Uth is no stranger to scoring key goals for his side in important matches as he showed against Liverpool in the Champions League qualifier, scoring in both legs for Hoffenheim.
It is being reported that Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the striker and will be looking to sign him on a free transfer next season. This summer, there was interest from Uth’s former team Cologne to sign him back but Hoffenheim were not willing to part with their key player.
German media reports that Uth’s scoring form has caught the attention of his national team and that he could be a surprise inclusion in the squad for the 2018 World Cup.
It is fairly certain that Uth would bring a lot of quality with him, but will he really cut the ice at Tottenham? Pochettino still has a place for a young striker to work alongside Harry Kane. His efforts with Vincent Janssen did not give positive results. Uth could be a different proposition altogether if we sign him next summer.
