Tottenham could be looking to add more firepower to their attack according to a report from the Daily Mail. While we did let go of Vincent Janssen to Fenerbahce temporarily, we also signed Fernando Llorente from Swansea City on deadline day to provide us with some cover for Harry Kane.
However, Llorente can be considered a short-term answer for the Kane riddle and the report claims that we are one of a handful of clubs looking at Turkish forward Cenk Tosun.
The 26-year-old won the Super Lig with Besiktas last season and will be looking to pick up another title with the side this time around. The report also adds that we had sent scouts to check out the Turkish striker during his side’s Champions League victory over Porto, where Tosun scored.
The 26-year-old was a realistic target for both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United in the transfer window but no deal took place.
However, Besiktas are now willing to let go of the forward for a fee which is rumoured to be £17.5million, which is a bargain in this world of inflated prices.
It seems Tosun was also ready to leave the side as the Mail quoted him speaking about his collapsed move to Palace.
“Crystal Palace offered €13.5 million on transfer deadline day. Had they made the bid a week earlier I would be playing in the Premier league right now.”
Loyalty seems to be a major talking point for the Turkish striker and he added that he would only leave his side if it made Besiktas some money before adding that he fully committed to the club.
“I would only leave Besiktas if I made my club money and if the circumstances are right. Now I’m focused on winning my third consecutive league title, playing Champions League football and focusing on international football.”
Tosun was in incredible form for the Turkish side last season as he chipped in with 20 goals from 33 league games. The 26-year-old might not be a household name for many but he certainly can get the job done and if we can sign him up on the cheap, he could turn out to be a great player for us.
The striker seems set to leave sooner or later and with our requirement of cover for Kane or someone who can give us another dimension, it would not be a surprise if Mauricio Pochettino does move for a rather unknown player who would not cost the club a bomb and affect our finances.
