Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela is recovering from a serious hip injury and could possibly return after next month’s international break.
The Argentine playmaker who has almost been a forgotten man, was captured by Sky Sports cameras going through his paces on Thursday in Enfield. The report is sure to raise the mood of Tottenham fans.
The 25-year-old who joined from AS Roma in August 2013 for a reported £30million was unfortunate with the spate of injuries he has had to endure at the White Hart Lane. He spent a large chunk of time on the sidelines since October and had even undergone a surgery in April.
He was expected to be fit for the start of this season but the latest setback pushed his return further, casting doubts on his career. There were reports indicating that he may be looking to move on from the club, either back to Italy, or even to homeland, Argentina.
However, the medical staff kept working on him and the player too never lost hope. It now seems like he could be ready for his first bow in almost a year, with next month looking like a realistic target.

Tottenham will play host to Bournemouth at Wembley on October 14 followed by the World Cup Qualifiers. Eight days later, Liverpool would visit Wembley, with a Champions League trip to Real Madrid sandwiched in between.
The Lilywhites are hopeful of Lamela returning for any of those games. His last competitive appearance for Spurs was as a substitute in the 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool last October.
I know the fans will be frustrated in hearing this ‘Lamela is close to a return’ many times. For someone who had a difficult time at the start of his career at White Hart Lane, Lamela has picked up the threads under Mauricio Pochettino.
Unfortunately, just at the time when he was getting ready to fulfill his potential, did the injuries strike. It requires great mental strength to come back from a career-threatening injury. Let us all hope that the Argentine midfielder gets back to the field and showcases his real capabilities.
