Tottenham To Battle With Manchester United For The Signature Of Highly-rated Scottish Defender

Tottenham Hotspur are all set to battle Manchester United for the signing of Celtic’s young left-back Kieran Tierney. Latest reports from Scottish outlet Daily Record indicate that United are scouting the youngster and would be challenging Spurs for the signature of the highly-rated defender.

Tierney is just 20 years of age but has established himself as one of the most important players for the Scottish champions. The left-back has been on the radar of Manchester United for a long time as the Red Devils view him as a replacement for Luke Shaw.

That is interesting because Tierney has been viewed as a replacement for Danny Rose at Tottenham as questions loom over the future of Rose who has been linked with a move to United in the past.

The youngster has become a regular for the Scottish national team too and it has been a long-standing open secret that he would not stay with the Hoops for long.

Brendan Rodgers knows that he has a great talent on his books and many times in the summer, he has indicated how his star defender has been attracting interest. However, he has always insisted that the club would not be willing to sell Tierney at any cost – at least in the near future.

This isn’t far from the truth because considering the progress he is making, and the speed at which he is making, it won’t be long before Tierney leaves Parkhead for his long term future.

He has definitely gone beyond the level of Scottish football and should test himself in the Premier League on a regular basis. But, which would be his destination? Will United be able to snatch him or will Tottenham get the youngster?

The presence of Mauricio Pochettino is a huge boost for Tottenham when it comes to attracting youngsters, as we have seen in the capture of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth this summer. The path to the first team for a youngster at the North London club is much more settled and clear than it is at Old Trafford, for now.

The only worry is, if we continue to dither, there is a chance that our rivals could snatch Tierney. Let’s hope it won’t be the case!
