Tottenham’s On-loan Striker Making Waves As He Helps His Club To A Derby Win

Tottenham Hotspur flop Vincent Janssen believes that he has found his salvation at Fenerbahce, after a disastrous last season at the White Hart Lane.

The Dutch international striker is on loan at the Turkish club after failing to live up to expectations at Tottenham. The 23-year-old was quite prolific at AZ Alkmaar and it was expected that he would be a perfect support cast for Harry Kane.

However, it wasn’t to be, as Janssen struggled for goals during his stint with Spurs. Having scored just 2 Premier League goals in the entire season, it was only a matter of time before he was shipped out.

There were a number of Premier League clubs ready to take him on loan during the summer window but Janssen rejected all advances to declare his intention of staying put and challenging for a place in the playing XI. But, Mauricio Pochettino had no place for Janssen in his plans and eventually the striker was sent on a season-long loan to Fenerbahce, following Fernando Llorente’s deadline day arrival.

Interestingly, the striker hit the ground running from day one and is already looking like an entirely different player. He has 2 goals from his first 3 League games – the same amount he had at Spurs in an entire season. He also has 2 assists to his name, highlighting his success at settling down quickly to life in the Turkish Super Lig.

The highlight of his season so far is the performance on Saturday in the Istanbul derby against Champions Besiktas, that saw him win two penalties and score the second, to lead his side to a 2-1 win. It was a fiery encounter that saw 5 players sent-off and it was Janssen’s performance that was the difference.

The Tottenham man, on loan at Fenerbahce, feels that the move to Turkey has been a kind of salvation and says that he is enjoying his time at the club.

“My transfer to Fenerbahce has been a kind of salvation,” Janssen told reporters after the match (as quoted by Evening Standard).

“If you get this opportunity, you’re grateful to the people [who gave it to you]. It’s nice to get minutes here and you’ll take that chance with both hands.

“I really enjoyed my first Istanbul derby. The atmosphere was fantastic with the passion of the supporters.”

There is a section of Tottenham supporters who feel that Janssen should have been given another season at the club to show his true form. Whatever it is, the Dutch striker is enjoying a great season in Istanbul and hopefully, he would return as an entirely different player.
