Tottenham Scouting League One Teenage Sensation – In Race With West Ham For His Signature

Mitch Candlin

It’s not a surprise to find Tottenham Hotspur being linked with youngsters around the country. So, news about Walsall teenage sensation being monitored by the Lilywhites is, if you ask me, business as usual.

The Sun reports that Tottenham and West Ham are looking at 17-year-old Walsall youngster Mitch Candlin. The teenager made his first-team bow in April and has already caught the eye of the Premier League clubs. Candlin has already made history by becoming the third youngest player to make League One debut and his progress has been closely watched by a clutch of Premier League sides – led by Tottenham Hotspur.

The youngster is a Saddlers academy graduate and has enjoyed a rapid rise through the first team to become a regular in Jon Whitney’s long-term plans. He signed his first professional contract in August after just six appearances for the club and everyone at Walsall are excited about his potential.

As Whitney mentioned, the youngster represents the core values at the club and his potential has seen him get rewarded by the club. Not just that, his breakthrough with the club has seen him earn international call-up too after he was called to train with England Under-18s before their matches against South Africa and Brazil.

The 6ft tall striker is a natural goal scorer with an all-round game that suits the highest level. With Mauricio Pochettino having already forged a great reputation for nurturing young talents, there is no wonder that the youngster has caught the eye of the Tottenham scouts.

The Argentine has already helped a long list of successful players by handing them first-team chances at White Hart Lane. Be it Harry Kane, Kyle Walker-Peters, Harry Winks or Josh Onomah – the club has made a great name under Pochettino for developing young talents.

So, will Candlin be the next in line? There is interest from West Ham too as the Hammers plan to make the youngster join the likes of Reece Oxford and Declan Rice. But, it is Spurs who are leading the race and should be able to lure the youngster due to the presence of Pochettino.
