Mauricio Pochettino is set to provide Ross Barkley with a lifeline according to the Telegraph. The report claims that the Englishman is a target for the boss and that he will make a move to sign the Evertonian in the winter window.

Barkley had actually agreed a move to Chelsea in the summer for around £35m but he backed out of the medical. The 23-year-old also is out of contract at the end of the season and Everton will look to sell him off on the cheap in the winter window.

This is where we can come in and it is believed that we are willing to stump up £20m for the talented yet inconsistent midfielder.

Barkley has not played a single game for the Toffees this season and maybe his injury is much worse than expected. That could be one reason why the deal with Chelsea never took place but nevertheless, he does seem to be a decent option given the price that we might offer.

Big Plans For Barkley At Spurs?

The report also adds that Barkley could be paired in the heart of the midfield with Eric Dier, as Poch sees him as the perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele. The Belgian has struggled with a number of injuries since joining us and also went under the knife in the summer.

Dembele did state that he might never be 100% fit after the surgery and that means we have to look for a suitable replacement. Barkley ticks all the boxes to play in the heart of the midfield. The 23-year-old has fallen out with Ronald Koeman and his transfer out of the club is a foregone conclusion.

What is also interesting is that Poch believes that Barkley can play in a team that features Dele Alli too and we won’t question the boss, given that a lot of his tactics have worked since he has taken over at the club.

The major concern would the case of Barkley not turning out to be the ideal signing for us. We have seen a number of duds during Pochettino’s time and hopefully, this won’t turn out to be another one.
