Phil Neville and Harvey Neville

Tottenham Hotspur is in line to spring a surprise by snaring the son of a legendary Manchester United player. Latest reports coming from Spain (Superdeporte) indicate that the Spurs are set to rival the Red Devils for the signature of Harvey Neville, son of Phil Neville.

Phil, who is one part of the famous class of ’92 at Manchester United is a legendary player at Everton too, where he finished his career. His son is making waves at Spanish club Valencia and the Premier League clubs are tracking his progress this season.

Harvey went to Valencia in 2015 when Phil was appointed as the assistant coach of Valencia. Phil left a year after Gary Neville was sacked as the boss, but Harvey has remained with Valencia even after that.

Harvey is earning plaudits in the Spanish side’s academy and is said to be earning comparisons to another English football legend David Beckham, thanks to his ability with his right foot.

The Red Devils are interested in bringing back the youngster to England and reportedly made an effort to sign the 15-year-old for their Academy last summer.

Now with Spurs joining the race, it could be an interesting tussle for the youngster. Reports indicate that the youngster is progressing very swiftly and could become a senior professional footballer within the next couple of years. No wonder then that the scouts are so impressed with Harvey!

Where will Harvey end up? There is no doubt that he would eventually leave Valencia and his dad would play a vital role in choosing a destination. If Phil decides to make an emotional decision – his close friend Nicky Butt is heading United Academy, Spurs will not have a chance in the world.

However, the presence of Mauricio Pochettino could be a game-changer for Spurs. The Argentine has a great reputation of building careers of a number of youngsters. Jose Mourinho at United doesn’t boast of a similar reputation and that might sway the deal in Spurs’ favour.

Interesting times for Harvey Neville and let’s hope he makes a prudent decision to continue his career in the right path.
