Finally the day came when Tottenham ended their Wembley woes by registering their first Premier League victory at this grand stadium against Bournemouth. Christian Eriksen’s second-half goal remained the highlight of the game throughout and with Manchester United sharing the stakes at Anfield, Tottenham have closed the gap to just three points to the second-placed Red Devils.
The Lilywhites had gathered maximum points from their last four games prior to this fixture, but we were still without a win at Wembley in the Premier League. Be it by the narrowest of margin, the wait is finally over. The visitors were defensively compact and denied Spurs in the second half, but couldn’t maintain their stature for the entirety of the game.
All eyes were on Harry Kane and certainly for all right reasons. The striker was expected to wreak havoc, but Asmir Begovic made sure he kept his slate clean against the English man. Denying Kane on several occasions, the former Chelsea stopper literally frustrated Kane during the game. Hugo Lloris, on the other hand, was called into action several times as well. First out was Jermain Defoe. The former Tottenham striker was introduced during the final 15 minutes and he almost levelled the scoring, only to be denied by the brilliance of Hugo Lloris.
The French stopper was forced to make another save soon after, after Eric Dier almost turned a certain Bournemouth corner into his own net. Mauricio Pochettino was left impressed with the way his side performed, but didn’t seem happy when quipped about Tottenham’s Wembley performance so far.
As quoted by BBC, the Argentine said:
“The team played well. It was difficult to find the space. We had a lot of time on the ball but could not break down the opponent.
“In the second half we found better positions and moved the ball quickly, it was much better. We are always suffering if you don’t score the second goal. It was good, not great, but enough to win the three points.
“I am delighted we have won but it is impossible to stop you asking me about Wembley.”
With that being done, here is how the fans reacted to the win:

Good result which was most important but we simply must put teams away… we have Madrid on Tuesday and they won’t make that mistake
