Tottenham Hotspur are not letting their performances this season get to their head and are still looking to add more quality to their side. While we have been trying hard to sign Ross Barkley, we could be in for a former Liverpool player.
Calcio Mercato claims that we are still in the hunt for a midfielder and that we are willing to bid for Suso. The Spanish midfielder has found a lease of life at AC Milan after leaving Liverpool and has been one of their better performers in a rather topsy turvy season.
The 23-year-old already has 4 goals and 4 assists to his name this season and is a versatile customer. Suso is also great with free-kicks and could be a good option to have given the injury records of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.
The problem lies with his release clause which is stated to be around £44m. The new clause came into effect after a contract extension with the Italian giants. What is a little surprising is the fact that we had reportedly bid £20.5m for the 23-year-old in the summer and Milan had turned that offer down as well.
It would be a surprise if Milan do let him go given that he is young and can grow into one of the best in the Italian league. He is also someone who does have the experience of playing in the Premier League, thanks to his time with Liverpool. With Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, the Spaniard might just get a lot better and reach his potential.
Suso being linked with a move to Spurs could mean the end of a deal for Ross Barkley. The Englishman has not played a single minute due to an injury prior to the campaign and his future is in further doubt given that Ronald Koeman has been sacked.
The new manager at the Toffees could be looking to extend Barkley’s contract but nothing can be taken for granted. At the moment, Suso would be a better option to have than Barkley but it seems unlikely we would be willing to stump up £44m for the Spaniard.
