Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their ranks of talented youngsters as they look to snatch a striker from fellow Premier League side Manchester City. According to the latest reports from The Times (via ninety minutes online), Spurs are interested in signing the highly-rated Bobby Duncan.
The youngster has football in his genes and is a cousin of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. However, he was reportedly turned down by the Reds before joining the famed Etihad Academy at Manchester City.
The report claims that the youngster is contemplating if his future lies at the Etihad and that has given hopes to the likes of Arsenal, Southampton, and Tottenham.
The 16-year-old City Academy player has already impressed at the national level for England having helped the England Under-17 team complete a 3-2 comeback against Portugal on Wednesday.
That is not the first time he impressed for the national side because his hat-trick for the Three Lions Under-16 team against Brazil last November made clubs notice his talent.
That hat-trick incidentally made Duncan the first England player to score a hat-trick against Brazil at any level.
The latest reports indicate that the youngster is yet to sign a professional contract with City and that could pave the way for him to make a switch to any club he desires.
One of the prime concerns that would determine his next destination would be the number of chances he can get in the first-team. It is an open secret that the route to City’s first squad is littered with several foreign stars.
City have already seen the talented Jadon Sancho leave the club to join Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in search of regular football. For all their lofty promises, City struggle to help young Under-16s and Under-18s realize their dreams at the club.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have a proven history of making the careers of many youngsters. Be it Harry Kane or Harry Winks, under their Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Lily Whites have become the new hotbed for English youngsters.
Should Duncan decide on a move to the White Hart Lane, he can be sure of improving under Pochettino and a better opportunity to grow into senior football.
