Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo wants Tottenham striker Harry Kane to replace Karim Benzema, who is struggling for form this season.
It is no secret Benzema’s days are numbered at Santiago Bernabeu and his teammate Ronaldo has urged the club to splash the cash on Kane, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon. Real president Florentino Perez has the idea of signing a replacement for the French striker, and he has several names in mind. One of them is reportedly Harry Kane, who is undoubtedly a favourite of Ronaldo.
Kane has firmly established as one of the world’s best strikers and has been in fine form this season for Spurs, scoring 18 goals in 20 appearances.
The England international already has been heavily linked with a big-money move to either Real Madrid or Manchester United. But with United spending on Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer to solve their goal-scoring woes, it looks unlikely to see Kane swap North London for Manchester.
This leaves Real as the clear favourites to land Kane next summer, provided the English striker decides to leave Spurs.
Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid have so far been underwhelming this season by their standards and this has also coincided with a dip in Benzema’s form. The French international has only scored 5 goals in all competitions and 2 goals in 11 La Liga games.
The goals have significantly dried up for Benzema, who is clearly lacking confidence and composure in front of goal lately. It will not be a surprise if the Real hierarchy plots a move for the Spurs hitman to replace the out-of-sorts Benzema.
Also, Perez will be keen to keep Ronaldo happy at Bernabeu and could look to grant his wish of luring away Kane from us. Surely, Kane won’t come cheap and Real have to fork out a substantial amount of money to sign one of the world’s hottest talents.
There have been past instances when the Spanish powerhouse have lured away two of most Spurs’ prized assets. Luka Modric signed for Real in 2012, while a year later, Gareth Bale swapped White Hart Lane for Bernabeu. So it will come as no big surprise if Real actually listen to Ronaldo’s advice and submit an offer next summer for mercurial Kane.
Nevertheless, the bid should be rejected by us as we have no necessity to sell our top stars whatsoever.
