Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the likes of Liverpool and Paris-Saint Germain in the race to sign attacker Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina. The winger, who is the son of former Italy international Enrico Chiesa, has been earning rave reviews in Serie A this season.
Chiesa has been in fine form for Fiorentina this season, scoring four times and registering an assist in 15 Serie A appearances so far. The 20-year-old is talented and the young winger has already established himself in the Fiorentina team.
The Italian is starting to make his mark in Florence, but it appears though there is huge interest from England as well other parts of Europe which could influence him to leave the Serie A club.
According to La Stampa, (h/t talkSPORT), both Tottenham and Liverpool want to sign him but have been told that they’ll have to fork out £53m to land his signature.
That is the price tag Fiorentina have slapped on the Italian’s head and they are refusing to reduce it under any circumstance. So this leaves with the question whether the valuation will be met or not by either of the clubs?
A Versatile Player That Can Add Quality To Any Side
Chiesa, who can also operate as a forward, central midfielder or attacking midfielder, would be a great long-term signing for any club. While he has proven his quality this season and without a doubt has a bright future ahead of him, £53m is a substantial figure for a player who is yet to really prove himself at the highest level.
As far as Spurs are concerned, Mauricio Pochettino could think of bringing the player to add depth to the squad as the Londoners continue to search for a way to compete on a number of fronts.
The Premier League, where we have lost our way with some inconsistent results, looks to be a distant dream with Manchester City at the top of the table and in no mood to drop points.
This leaves Pochettino to concentrate on the Champions League, where we have played some breathtaking football, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to emerge as group winners and setting up a last-16 tie against Italian champions Juventus.
With the FA Cup to start from January, we definitely need a bigger squad and Chiesa could become an important player. However, the question is whether our chairman Daniel Levy would pay over £50m for a 20-year-old?
