Maxwel Cornet

Tottenham have been linked with a move for one of Lyon’s most promising players in Maxwel Cornet. A report from the Mirror claims that we are tracking the progress of the 21-year-old and are yet to lodge a formal bid but that can change given how well the Ivorian is progressing in Ligue 1.

Cornet plays on the wings and is comfortable on either flank. The youngster already has a 2 goals and 3 assists in the league this season and has followed it up with 10 goals from his last season.

Similar to most wingers in the current era of football, Cornet too loves to cut inside and is known for his ability to link up with the attack with his short passing and layoffs. The most important aspect of this move would be the price, which is rumoured to be around £7million, which is a bargain.

One For The Future But Is He Right For Tottenham?

There is no doubt that we need to add some quality to our side, well at least some strength in depth. Mauricio Pochettino is someone who does not like to have a huge squad to select from but as we have seen this season, injuries can hamper all the plans too.

We need someone who can come off the bench and make a difference or even replace the likes of Son Heung-min or Christian Eriksen when they need a break, which we have not been able to do regularly.

There will be a number who would claim that Cornet is not ready for the Premier League but we have one of the best coaches in the world in Pochettino, who has a history of developing players.

Cornet is not the finished product yet but he is someone who will get better with more playing time and that could be the one reason why he might not move to Tottenham.

Pochettino does give chances to players but the player will have to work hard and earn it, while at Lyon, he will get more playing time than joining us. £7million would be a steal if we can sign him and we will have to see just how it goes in the summer window.
